We are still attempting to get some kind of 25th runion together.
We are looking to make it very simple and easy as most of us are very busy.
Our latest thoughts are to have a "Carne Asada" on a Saturday evening in late October
or early November. Rudy Valdez has graciously offered his home but has also left it
open if anyone else would like to offer thiers.
All of this is just in the thinking stage and we would like some ideas.
We were thinking of charging around $25.00 and hopefully be able to buy
the food and maybe a keg and/or margarita machine.

I would like for us to have a meeting for anyone who wants to help plan this event.

Please get back to me if you are willing to help get it together.

AUSTIN REUNION CANCELLED!

Regretably, our efforts to hold a reunion in Austin has generated a backlash in Eagle Pass. The upside is that it looks like local folks will be planning one in EP this fall. We support these efforts 100% so we thought it best to cancel the Austin Reunion and support our Eagle Pass classmates.

More information will be posted as we receive it from the folks in EP.

REGISTRATION OPENS!

ALL EPHS CLASSES ARE INVITED TO ATTEND!

September 1-3, 2006
Austin, Texas

The 25th Reunion for the Class of 1981 will be held in Austin, Texas September 1-3, 2006. This will be a low-key affair given the timing. However, we will be pushing a strong turnout as we are also welcoming all EPHS alumni (graduates or not) to join us. Some of us have talked about how much we'd like to visit with other classmates who either didn't graduate with us or were in a different class.

YOU MUST REGISTER BY SATURDAY, AUGUST 5, 2006 to receive an early-bird discount. We will set our budget according to the registrations received by that date.

Diana Gutierrez Maldonado, Round Rock School Board President, will be making the arrangements for us in Austin and we look forward to a wonderful, worthwhile event. I will be handling media and communications, while Patsy Blake Moore and I will handle the treasury through our new IBC account. Mirtha Dickerson will be assisting with Eagle Pass based planning.

Registration Fees as follows:

Early Bird (by Saturday, August 5, 2006)

  • Couples $75
  • Singles $40
Late Registration
  • Couples $90
  • Singles $50
To register, send an email to ephs1981reunion@yahoo.com and we will send you an invoice to pay online through Pay Pal, Inc. Or you can pay directly by sending your registration fees through Pay Pay, Inc. to ephs1981reunion@yahoo.com. You may also pay any Reunion Committee member directly (Patsy Moore or Mirtha Dickerson in Eagle Pass).

Registration will cover the Saturday evening dinner and Friday evening reception. Daytime events will be paid individually. Details will be released after August 5th after we contract with caterers and/or venues.

June 30, 2006

Patsy Moore and I opened a bank account this morning at IBC Bank. We are holding an organizing committee meeting at Border Cafe next Thursday, July 6, 2006 at 6:00 PM. Crucial decisions will be made regarding cost and venue. All Class of 1981 members are welcome.

Please be ready to register next weekend because there will be a very short time to get the organizing done. This will be a fairly simple affair given the time crunch but we didn't want to lose the opportunity to visit with each other this year.

SEE YOU LABOR DAY WEEKEND!!!

June 2, 2006

Patsy is opening a bank account in Eagle Pass very soon and I will setup a Paypal link so we can accept credit card payments for the registration. We will decide on a budget once we have an idea of what we have to work with. All the financials will be available online for transparency so everyone knows what is being collected and how it is being spent.

Please realize that I will probably not be able to get back to everyone in a timely manner. I really don't have much time to dedicate to this task but I really did want the chance to have a reunion this year. So don't expect anything elaborate.

I will be working in Eagle Pass for a couple of weeks starting in late June so we will schedule some meetings then.

Juan

Diana(Gutierrez) Maldonado , Patsy (Blake) Moore, and I have agreed to step forward and start organizing the reunion. We will be getting a hold of those of you who have volunteered to help out. But for now, keep close touch because things will start moving quickly.

The 25th Year Class Reunion for Eagle Pass High School will be held Labor Day Weekend from September 1-3, 2006 in Austin, Texas with the familiar format of Friday evening reception, Saturday dinner, and Sunday family picnic. The event is being held in Austin because it is easier for us to do the planning from there. We hope to find ways to make it easier for those in Eagle Pass to make the trip.

I received a tax ID number today and Patsy will be opening a bank account in Eagle Pass soon. Registration will begin soon after.

Juan

PS - Congratulations to Diana who was just elected as the first Latina School Board President in Round Rock! So it looks like we might have a 25th Class Reunion after all! Several people have started stepping forward to help organize this year's reunion. We are using both this wiki website and a Yahoo Groups to communicate with each other. You can join the Yahoo Group at Yahoo Group. All messages are archived so you can catch up with what's been going on. Plus, you will be able to vote on all major decisions.

The main item at this point is when to hold the reunion. The general consensus is to hold the reunion in San Antonio this year. Several steps have been outlined to get the ball rolling so you should be hearing more about the reunion soon. Please let our classmates know that YES, we are probably having a reunion this year.

Hey All!! I'd like to get an email listing from participants. Labor Day weekend may be the optimal choice unless we would like to lock down on a summer date for those of us that may bring our families and provide time for activities. I'd like to do a Friday as a check in and relaxed social evening. Saturday would be inclusive of some activities that perhaps may be:

  • Family /updates/how many children/mom/dad etc.
  • Professional outcomes/successess
  • Civic
  • Educational
  • Hobbies
  • Other
I'd like the opportunity for those that may want to connect--to have an atmosphere and host activities for such opportunities. Just a thought. Of course pictures say a thousand words so we may consider bringing pics and then make a collection on an album or a video.Or we could do a series of titles which will enable us to share our stories and pics such as:

  • Did you know??
  • Last time I looked???
  • Where did the time fly??
  • 40's, the new 20 something era!!??
  • Boy, I can't believe I did that??
That's all for now, Hasta luego,
Diana

A summer date sounds fine with me too Diana. It doesn't have to be Labor Day. Maybe I should make a poll online so we can vote on the date. A three-day event sounds OK with me too if people are willing to do the work. I will post a poll this week at the Yahoo Group and ask people to vote...please send me or Diana nominations on dates and we will vote on them.

Also, do the San Antonio folks (Luis, Belinda?) have ideas on where we should hold the events? Do you two want to start gathering information on locations and prices?

Juan

Someone in San Antonio needs to say that they will "lead" us in planning the reunion and get things started!!! Anyone up for the job? Maybe you all can plan a meeting there for anyone who can make it. Just a thought.

So what's the update guy's?

Sorry that there isn't much we can do from this end in Dallas, if so let me know. I believe Adrienne mentioned that she would be more than happy to do what she could from this part.

Patsy, did Laura "Pebbles" Martinez ever get with you? She had emailed me asking me if I knew of any updates for the reunion. Told her that I did not, but that Juan created this wiki web to help start getting things rolling. She was going to send you an email asking what she could do to help considering that she is in San Antonio.

Juan let me know if there is anything I can do to help. my email address is calica@comcast.net

I haven's seen anything since May 7th and that was Carlos asking about the update. So what is going on? Are we still looking at San Antonio? There might be a few of us in the Dallas Fort Worth area that can organize something here. Here's a thought...something at Ameriquest Field in Arlington. There are plenty of reasonable packages that they offer for large parties, meetings and such. There are several hotels within walking distance and there is also a large area for picnics and parties. The airport is about 20 minutes from the ballpark and so is Six Flags and Hurricane Harbor. The Rangers are playing September 1st, 2nd and 3rd at home and then the 14th through the 20th. It doesn't necessarily have to be a 3 day event but if SA doesn't pan out then I'm sure that those of us that live in this area can probably work together to put it together. Just a thought....
